Connection Through Calligraphy Past Event
Written words strengthen our connection to each other and to our place in humanity.
Bring your imaginative spirit and create your own weathergram in the quiet calming energy of SoulPod, Richmond.
A weathergram is an idea based on an original Japanese tradition that was interpreted by Lloyd Reynolds, the founder of The Portland Society for Calligraphy, of attaching a strip of paper that was written with a prayer and then hung from branches of trees. They were then left in the elements to watch them ‘weather’. Weathergrams were traditionally written around the time of the solstice or equinox of seasons.
In this two-hour workshop you will be guided through the basic principles of calligraphy and use these simple techniques to write a weathergram. Written on a strip of brown paper with traditional sumi ink, your writing can be poems, quotes or words of gratitude. A simple word or phrase.
Take your weathergram home to place in nature, just in time for the autumn equinox.
All materials are included and are yours to take home, including a personal calligraphy kit and handmade porcelain pen rest.
Maximum 14 people per workshop.
